Step 1: Catch a fish, press Sack It
Step 2: Measure the catch on a ruler containing a bump piece
● Position the fish on the ruler with the stomach facing down, head to the left, mouth closed & touching the bump piece, then measure to the ¼ line that the tip of the tail crosses. Do not place your hand under the fish’s mouth or cover the eye of the fish with your hand.
Step 3: Take a photo of the full length of the fish and measuring device as described above, also displaying the tournament code.
Step 4: Fill in the catch type, length, and lure used for the catch. Press save!

The South Carolina Kayak Fishing club will be hosting a kayak bass tournament with 50% of proceeds going back to Special Olympics. This is tournament is in conjunction to the Saluda River Rally on Saturday June 2.

This will be a 50/50 payout and 100% on big fish. $20.00 buy in and $5.00 big fish.

The South Carolina Kayak club has supported this event for 9 years and this year is collaborating with Anderson County Parks and Rec to host this great fishing tournament. The access points will be at Dolly Cooper to Saluda River Grill, which is a 9 mile float, Timmerman in Pelzer, and the Adger Steet landing also in Pelzer. Shuttle will be available for those that choose Dolly to Saluda River Grill. The scoring will be done through Fatsack Outdoors. This will be a $1.75 to register and the $25.00 payed on Saturday or Sunday at captains meeting (cash only).

SCKF TOURNAMENT RULES

 

 

  1. PARTICIPATION AND ELIGIBILITY
  • Participation is open to all anglers 18 years old or above. Anglers younger than 18 years old may participate upon submitting a release form with parent or guardian signature.
  • South Carolina Kayak Fishing (SCKF) must receive a completed waiver form and entry fee from each contestant prior to the event. (One waiver per participant, per year) Failure to do so will result in disqualification or ban participation.
  • All participants must have a valid South Carolina Fishing License and adhere to all South Carolina DNR rules and regulations.

 

  1. REGISTRATION, ENTRY FEE AND CAPTAIN’S BRIEFING
  • Registration for all live events will be held the morning of the event.
  • The entry fee is $20 per tournament. There will be an optional $5 Big Bass pot.
  • Captain’s Briefings will be in the morning, immediately before each tournament. Times will be set individually for each event and will be listed in the event information posting. Attendance at the Captain’s Briefing is mandatory. These briefings will serve the purpose of signing waiver forms, issuing tournament IDs and rules review.

 

  1. ACCEPTABLE WATERCRAFT
  • All vessels must be human-powered. Acceptable watercraft include kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards only.
  • The use of a boat or motorized water vehicle to transport your boat on the water is prohibited. (ie. no “mother shipping”).
  • All craft must be self-propelled – no engines are allowed. Accommodations will be made for anglers with special needs, with the prior approval of the Tournament Director.
  • Only one angler per kayak is allowed. Tandem fishing may be allowed with prior approval from the Tournament Director.
  • If you have a questionable watercraft, please contact the Tournament Director for clearance.

 

  1. LAUNCH POINTS
  • All participants will launch from the same location, MJ Dolly Cooper Park.
  • All participants will return to the same location for weigh-in, unless otherwise stated at the captains meeting.
  • All participants will launch and return at the same designated time.

 

  1. GENERAL RULES
  • NO fish will be kept in ice chests, baskets, stringers, etc.
  • All fish will be photographed and immediately released unharmed.
  • Each fish may only be submitted once.
  • Failure to comply with these rules will result in the angler being disqualified.

 

  1. ELIBIBLE SPECIES
  • All Black Bass species are eligible (Largemouth, Spot, Shoal, Smallmouth, Redeye)
  • All fish will be caught, photographed, and released

 

  1. PERMITTED FISHING METHODS
  • All fish must be caught with rod and reel.
  • Only artificial lures may be used. Live bait (or formerly “live” bait) is prohibited.
  • All fish must be caught from a kayak or canoe. No wade fishing or shore fishing is permitted unless otherwise stated for a particular event. (In the case of larger fish, if you need to paddle to the bank and get out of the kayak to get a picture, this is allowed, but the kayak HAS to be in the photo.)

 

  1. SAFETY
  • Safety is of utmost importance and must be observed by all participants.
  • Each participant is required to comply with US Coast Guard regulations including approved PFD. All USCG and SC DNR regulations are in effect at all times.
  • PFDs are required to be worn at all times. Failure to comply will result in immediate disqualification.

 

  1. SPORTSMANSHIP
  • All participants are required to follow the highest standards of sportsmanship, courtesy and conservation.
  • During competition, participants shall not obtain assistance including but not limited to the following: from a non-participant’s boat, the placing of markers by a non-participant, being towed, hauled, provided with electronic data or voice communication from non-participants.
  • The possession/use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs is prohibited. Any possession/use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, participation in criminal activity, or other conduct reflecting unfavorably upon our efforts to promote safety, sportsmanship, fair competition, and/or compliance with tournament rules, are grounds for immediate disqualification and return of any prizes awarded.

 

  1. WEIGH IN
  • All anglers must use their own smart phone or digital camera to record their catches. The sharing of a smart phone or digital camera is prohibited.
  • The designated weigh-in time will be in the tournament announcement and will also be specified in the Captain’s Briefing. Anglers arriving late to weigh in will have 1” deducted from their total for every five minutes they are late. Anglers 15 minutes or more, late will be disqualified.

 

  1. SCORING
  • Each angler will be given a unique identifier for the event. Your identifier must be visible in each photo submitted.
  • The minimum length for submission is 8” to10” (This will be announced at each captains meeting, the morning of the event). The tail may be pinched or natural.
  • The only accepted measuring devices will be the Hawg Trough, or The Fish Stik by Fish Grip. Markings on the Hawg Trough must be clearly marked to the 1/4”. No other measuring devices will be allowed, period.
  • All fish must be measured facing left, with the dorsal fin up. The mouth must be touching the end of the measuring device and must be closed. Fish submitted with an open mouth will receive a standard ½” deduction for fish up to 18” and any fish over 18” will have a standard 1” deduction.
  • Stringers, fish grips, etc. may NOT be used while photographing your catch. Anglers may NOT restrain the fish by placing their hands under the gill plate. The fish may NOT be held on the board by any method other than the angler’s hand (ie. no rubber bands, etc.) Any photos submitted that do not follow these rules will be disqualified. Your Fish Hook may remain in the fish’s mouth, as long as it does not interfere with the mouth closing.
  • Fish will be measured to the nearest 1/4”, rounding down.
  • The entire fish must be visible in the photo. In the event that the entire fish is not pictured, the last measurement visible at the tail, will be used to determine length. Head and mouth MUST be in the picture. If we cannot see the head and mouth, the fish will be disqualified.
  • Fish of the same length must have some visible difference to be accepted.
  • The lengths of the three or five longest fish will be the anglers score. (Some events will be 3 fish, some will be 5 fish. We will announce this in the tournament announcements, as well as at the captains meeting. In the event of a tie, anglers will be scored based on the biggest fish between the tied anglers, if there is another tie then we move to the next biggest fish, so on and so forth.
  • The Tournament Director will have final authority to review all submissions and certify winners.

 

  1. RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND COVENANT NOT TO SUE
  • A waiver, release of liability, and covenant not to sue must be signed by all contestants before competing in any live tournament. It is required that all contestants take responsibility for themselves while participating in event activities. These will be presented at each event’s Captain’s Briefing, and anglers need only sign one waiver per season.

 

  1. RULE CHANGES
  • Rules may change or be edited at the discretion of the Tournament Director at any time up to the tournament date. Final rules will be discussed and clarified at the Captain’s Briefing.
  • Decisions of the Tournament Director are final in all matters and are not subject to appeal.

 

  1. OTHER
  • Scoring photos shall remain the sole property of SCKF to be used at their discretion. Participants agree to grant SCKF and their sponsors the unrestricted right to use their name, voice, photographic likenesses and biographical information in connection with SCKF tournaments, productions, promotions, articles, news releases and any/or other means determined by SCKF, and shall not be entitled to receive any compensation of any form in connection of said use.
  • Tournament rule interpretation is exclusively assigned to the Tournament Director and his decision in said matters is final and not subject to appeal.

  •  Water basins assigned a shoreline management classification by the commissioner.
  • The waters have a designated name recorded with the state.
  • Waters of the state which have been finally determined to be public waters or navigable waters by a court of competent jurisdiction; water basins previously designated by the commissioner for management for a specific purpose such as trout lakes and game lakes pursuant to applicable laws; water basins located within and totally surrounded by publicly owned lands.

Bass must be caught during time of event, in a sporting manner, on public waters only and must meet submission requirements described below. Photos displaying the tournament code must be included with each catch. 5 fish limit, the app will cull for you.

How to submit a catch:
Step 1: Catch a fish
Step 2: Measure the catch on a ruler containing a bump piece
Position the fish on the ruler with the stomach facing down, head to the left, mouth touching the bump piece, & measure to the tip of the tail.
Step 3: Take a photo of the full length of the fish, measuring device as described above & include tournament code in photo
Step 4: Fill in the catch type, length, and lure used for the catch. Press save!

Tournament Code: Posted at 9 PM the night before the contest
